If you have a small bathroom, here are a few design tips that can turn a cramped space into an open, airy one.

-Ponder the layout:  simply moving the sink to the same wall that the toilet is on can create space that will really open up a room and keep you from feeling “trapped”.

-Pick a paint color in cool tones.  Brighter, liquid toned colors can bring serenity to even a tiny room.

-Spa like tile such as clear subway tiles that run all the way to the ceiling create the illusion of height and will make the room seem bigger.  Add wall sconces on the tiled wall, and the reflective light doubles.

-For the flooring, stick with a light color in an interesting pattern.  A basket-weave tile with dots of the same color used on the wall tile is a popular, sophisticated look.

-A console sink offers an open visual compared to chunky bathroom cabinets.

-Have a walled in shower with outdated tile?  Consider a frameless shower.

-Enclosed linen closets take up lots of space and usually become major clutter collectors.  A little demo work could earn you an entire corner!  Use floating shelves, recessed cubby’s or hanging baskets to corral towels and bath supplies.
