April 22nd is Earth Day. The one day of the year we recognize giving back to nature and the environment. It’s time to start cleaning out the garage, attic and freshening up your home that you have been talking about all winter. Earth Day inspires being Green and helping the environment we live in. Earth day started in 1970 leading up to the first day of Spring. Rite-Loom contributes to the environment by specifying friendly products that enhance the homes you live in.

Many of our projects are more than flooring. We design full homes as well as construction remodels. A lot of our clients ask for energy efficient products when remodeling their homes, and our designers and staff are well diverse in these areas. We specifying energy efficient windows that help cut down house hold energy costs. These windows help keep the cold out and the heat in during winter months and reverse in the summer months. We then finish off your new windows with Hunter Douglas window treatments that help keep your energy costs down.

Our designers also love lighting. From ambient, to task, to accent we love to layer lighting in every room, and doing so we are very conscience of the energy that lighting can use. There are so many lights out now that are LED energy efficient that look like they are incandescent lights, like Kuzco Lighting that is a preferred vendor of Rite-Loom. These are a great alternative to put in the home and the designs have come a long way over the past few years.

Flooring can help to regulate the temperature in your home but not all carpets and wood are made to help the environment in which you live. Educating our clients is something we pride ourselves in. Product have off gassing which is the chemical that is released into your home. That is why researching products is important and asking your designer more about how the product is made and what VOC is produced is important. This is why the products we specify are research fully and one brand we love is Wool Carpet by Karastan due to the natural way it is produced.

New Zealand Wool that Karastan uses for their carpet truly does give back to the earth down to the grass fed sheep that the wool is sheered from. Wool is a great carpet in the sense that it can withstand over time and is natural and durable. (To read more about Karastan Wool go to http://www.karastan.com/carpet/new-zealand.aspx)
