Most of us love a good crush, unless it’s our carpet! It’s frustrating when that plush, lush carpeting we fell in love with starts flattening out! Carpet pile crushing not only spoils the look of carpeting, but barefoot travel throughout your home becomes a lot less enjoyable. Wool carpet is particularily suseptable…..but take heart. Rite-Loom has a few tricks that can bring the fluff back up in no time.

1. If you have dents in your carpet because you have moved furniture, place ice cubes over the indentations and allot them to melt. When the carpet is almost dry, tease the fiber back up with a fork.

2. For a larger area, place a damp towel over the flat carpet. Hold a hot steam iron over the towel to allow the steam to work its way into the carpet. Do not let the iron touch the carpet directly. You can use a blow dryer on “hot” setting. While the carpet is still warm, fluff the carpet with a fork.

How to Avoid Pile Crushing:

  • Make sure that your carpet padding is good quality – firm and dense.
  • Use furniture cups on the legs of your furniture to prevent carpet dents.

Good quality carpet is your best defense against unsightly “crushes”. Ask your Rite-Loom designer for the best choice – especially if you have a busy household or are prone to frequent rearranging.
