Most folks don’t consider the molding material required to transition a floor from one material to the next. Called “Finishing” pieces, trim pieces or accessories, they are often made of matching wood, laminate or tile. Check out these terms and make sure you budget for them when planning your new flooring design:

End Molding eases the transition between two flooring materials. Your installer should always work to match the height, such as a transition from laminate to carpet.

Flexible Molding conforms to curves.

Wall Base is also called baseboard and covers the gap between the material and wall. There should always be a small space which allows the flooring material to expand.

Quarter Round can be added along the bottom edge of the wall base for decorative purposes or to cover a gap often caused by uneven walls.

T-Molding is used between the same height flooring materials and also can close the expansion gap between large room applications.

Stair Nosing gives a round, finished edge to your stairs.

TO MEASURE wall base or quarter round, simply measure and jot down the length of each wall and total them up! We recommend that you add about 10% just to be safe. After you have the toatl length needed, divide it by the sold length of the molding. For example, if you come up with 960″ or 80′ needed and the quarter round is sold in 96″ or 8′ lengths; you will need 10 pieces of molding.

Transition molding is a little more complicated….but no worries! Your Rite-Loom designer will take all of the measurements and price the pieces a long with your other flooring material. Count on a professional to do the work and you will get a professional look every time!
